How ZenRentIt works
Borrow what you need from people nearby, or earn from what you already own. Here is what happens on each side, and how the money is kept safe in between.
How it works
Two sides of the same transaction, both designed so nobody has to trust a stranger with cash.
If you need stuff
- 1
Find it nearby
Search by keyword or browse the map. Filter by dates, distance and price before you ask.
- 2
Request your dates
Pick a day, a week or a month. The owner confirms, and only then does anything get charged.
- 3
Collect and go
Arrange pickup in the message thread, use it, hand it back. Your deposit releases automatically.
If you have stuff
- 1
Photograph it once
A few photos, a description, and where it lives. The listing takes about five minutes.
- 2
Set your own terms
Daily, weekly and monthly rates, a minimum rental length, a refundable deposit and a cancellation policy.
- 3
Get paid out
We hold the money until the item comes back, then transfer it straight to your bank via Stripe.
Pricing & payouts
Simple on both sides, and nothing appears at checkout that was not on the listing.
Renters pay the listed price
The price on the listing is the price you pay. No service fee is added at checkout.
Hosts keep all but 16.5%
Listing is free. When a rental completes, we keep 16.5% of the rental price and the rest is yours.
Deposits come back
A refundable deposit is held while the item is out and released once it is returned in good shape.
Payouts through Stripe
Host payouts are released when a rental completes and go to your bank through Stripe.
Lending to a stranger, safely
The awkward part of borrowing is what happens if something breaks. Here is how that is handled.
Refundable deposits
A booking can carry a deposit held on the renter card. Untouched unless something goes wrong.
Money held in the middle
Payment is taken up front and only released to the owner after it comes back.
Verified members
Identity checks and two-way reviews mean you know who you are handing your drill to.
Everything on the record
Messages, dates and money stay in one thread, so a disagreement has an audit trail.
