Most of what you need, you only need once.
A tile cutter gets used for one bathroom. A roof box comes out twice a year. A pressure washer spends its life in a cupboard being a pressure washer that nobody is using. ZenRentIt exists so that the one on your street can be the one you borrow — and so the one in your garage can pay for itself.
We are a marketplace for renting gear between neighbors. Tools, bikes, camping kit, photography equipment, whatever is sitting idle. People list what they own, other people rent it by the day, week or month, and the money is held by us until the item is safely back.
How a rental works

Search by keyword or ZIP code and filter by distance.

Ask, then book
Message the owner first if you have questions. Request your dates when you are ready.

Collect and use it
Arrange pickup in the thread. The exact address is shared once the booking is confirmed.

Return it
Hand it back. The deposit releases, the lender gets paid, and both of you can review.
How we think about it
We are the venue, not the party
Every rental is an agreement between two members. We provide the listing, the payment rails and the record — we do not own, inspect, store or deliver any of the gear.
Money sits still until the gear comes back
Payment is taken up front and held. The lender is paid after the return, and the deposit is released to the renter, so neither side has to trust the other with cash.
Addresses are private by default
A listing shows an area, not a doorstep. The exact pickup address is only shared once a booking is confirmed, and it is stored separately from the public listing.
Conversations stay on the record
Messages, dates and money live in one thread. If something goes wrong, there is an audit trail rather than two conflicting recollections.
What we do not do
Being clear about this matters more than sounding reassuring:
- We do not inspect, test, service or certify any item listed here. We have never seen it.
- We are not the seller, lender, renter, bailee or insurer of anything. The rental agreement is between the two members.
- We do not provide insurance. A deposit is not insurance, and it may not cover what a serious accident costs.
- We do not guarantee that any item is safe, functional, legal to operate, or suitable for what you intend to do with it.
